Headstones and Grave Markers
A headstone is a marker that sits at the top of a burial plot to identify the person at that specific gravesite. You can order a simple headstone with a minimalist look, but if you want something more detailed, work with Oaktree Engraving & Monuments’ custom headstone service in San Diego. We will help you to create a more personalized grave marker.
Our custom gravestone service will help you design a headstone that includes additional details. Standard grave markers include the deceased’s name, date of birth, and date of passing. Custom grave markers will display more, like a person’s nickname, favorite quote, bible verse, or picture.
Work with our San Diego headstone monument service to create a fully custom gravestone. We can help you choose from a variety of headstone designs and unique customizations.
Our San Diego headstone service offers several customization options. The granite headstone you choose is available in various shapes and colors.
Traditional cemetery headstones are long, vertical stone slabs with an arched top. There are also gravestone markers that lay flat on the ground. We offer our customers with more than the standard grave headstone with an arch or flat gravestone marker. As a custom headstone provider, we have other shapes available. Here are jus a few shapes you can choose from:
- Upright Monument – a rectangular stone called a die, sits on a flat, rectangular base. Top cuts can be rectangular, square, teardrop, or oval. Edges of the stone can be rounded, squared off, or even left unfinished
- Slant Monument – a headstone with a slanted face that sits on a flat, rectangular base
- Cross – a custom-cut upright headstone in the shape of a cross
- Heart – a custom-cut flat grave marker in the shape of a heart
As a custom San Diego grave marker service, we aim to help you honor your loved one with a meaningful headstone. While a local headstone company near you may only offer a few color choices, we have over ten different granite colors available for you to choose from. Bronze headstone options are also available through our headstone company.
One part of our custom headstone service is to work with you on a complete headstone engraving. Our compassionate customer service representative will help you decide what to have engraved on the grave marker. We will provide you with a list of fonts so you can make your loved one’s headstone or gravemarker unique and personalized.
Things to consider engraving on your loved one’s tombstone include:
- Military service rank or veteran status
- Favorite quotes, sayings, or bible verses
- Etched icons or images of a favorite hobby
There are two types of photos that families can put on their loved one’s headstone. The first type of photo is a porcelain picture and the second type is an etched picture.
A porcelain picture is made by printing a photograph onto a ceramic tile. The ink used to print the picture onto the ceramic tile is fade resistant. The plaque permanently attaches to the headstone or grave marker.
If you want to attach a plaque with a porcelain picture to your loved one’s tombstone, choose a picture with high resolution. While color pictures are the most common for porcelain plaques, you can also choose a black and white image. As your headstone provider, we will assist you with the ordering process.
If you don’t want a plaque, you might be more interested in having a portrait of your loved one etched onto the headstone. You can also choose to have a landscape or other image etched on the headstone. Examples of etchings include:
- Lighthouse and ocean
- Fisherman on a lake
- Angel among the sun and clouds
- Forest or tree of life
- Flowers, wreaths, or plants
- Sunrise or sunset
Headstone companies also offer functional and decorative elements that you can add to beautify a headstone or grave marker. The best items to add are things like flower vases, plant holders, and small statues.
Oaktree Engraving & Monuments grave marker service near you can also design and create a monument to honor your loved one. Memorials we have created for former customers include memorial benches, pillars, cremation markers, statues, and more.
You can choose to place a monument in the cemetery at the gravesite of your loved one, or you can choose to place the memorial at your home. A loving monument is a wonderful tribute to your loved one’s life and will help keep their memory alive.
